Important Training News for Urban Pest Management in 2021
A new National Training Package for Urban Pest Management is being introduced in 2021. This package was updated and implemented in September 2019. MPL Training Centre Pty Ltd (MPL) will begin implementing this new package from April 2021.
The new training package can be viewed here:
Significant Changes in Brief
As with all training package updates there are new unit codes, brand new units and changes to core and electives. However, the new package still contains versions of Units 5,6,18 and Units 8 & 10.
It should be noted however, that for those wishing to train for ‘General Pest’ and ‘Timber Pest’ licences, this new package will contain a higher volume of practical experience. For example, Unit 6 (CPPUPM3006) requires that a student complete practical experience on ten (10) separate work sites and be formally assessed on three (3) work sites.
Throughout the training package, there are also new additions covering additional pests, risk management and commercial pest services.
MPL Training Centre Pty Ltd is Ready!
We are excited to be providing our new courses in 2021, which contain the new theory and practical guidelines. We have liaised with industry and for the last year we have been working hard to source out new practical sites and work situations to meet the new requirements. So all of your training and work experience can be done right here at MPL and you’ll will gain an even wider range of knowledge and experience than previously offered. To be flexible, we have also structured our courses so that a student can do a good portion of their work experience with an industry supervisor. Please ask us about this option when you enrol.
MPL will soon begin taking new enrolments for courses beginning after in April 1st 2021. After this date, students will not be able to enrol in any of the older/current courses.
*Please note that due to the increase in training hours and organisation of work experiences, there will also be an increase in fees in 2021.
For Existing Students
All current/existing students are enrolled in the current training package. This current training package meets all current industry and licencing requirements so generally there is no need to make any changes or enrol in our new courses. You should just simply complete the version of the course/s to which you are enrolled and within the timeframe you have been allocated.
Transitions
For some students, there could be exceptions to the above. For example, a student may be enrolled in the older/current version ‘General Pest’ course but will need to be enrolled in the newer ‘Timber Pest’ course depending upon dates and timing. This is allowed for ‘Training Package’ guidelines and ‘Licensing Body’ legislation to support transitioning students.
Please be assured that MPL has pathways for all students to transition to the new training package from whichever level they completed in old package.
